In 2014 the NRBCT ran its inaugural Survivorship Programme almost 100 delegates attended. The conference was specially developed for breast cancer patients and their carers and focused on moving forward with life beyond treatment for Breast Cancer.

Guest speakers and health care professionals presented sessions throughout the day aimed to help delegates understand the facilities available locally in terms of follow-up medical care and support services. Topics covered included dealing with the physical and emotional effects of treatment, the importance of exercise and nutrition and lingerie options post surgery. The emphasis was very much on practical information to help survivors move forward and embrace life.

Survivorship Day

photoA big thank you to everybody who helped make The Nelson Regional Breast Cancer Trust’s inaugural Survivorship Day such a huge success.

Almost 100 delegates enjoyed wonderful presentations by guest speakers throughout the day. All sessions were aimed at helping delegates understand what facilities are available locally in terms of follow-up medical care and support services. Topics covered included dealing with the physical and emotional effects of treatment, the importance of exercise and nutrition and lingerie options post surgery, the emphasis was very much on practical information to help survivors deal with both physical and emotional changes, allowing them to move forward and embrace life.

We hope to run the Survivorship Days bi-annually in future, and have several fundraising events coming up later in the year, including the annual Bootcamp for Breast Cancer (16th November) in order to fund an ongoing programme.

October 2012 – $20,000 raised!

We’re pleased to announce that throughout October 2012 the trust has raised approximately $20,000!

The annual Boot Camp for Breast Cancer has raised over $13,000.

Of the total pool raised at the boot camp, $6,000 was received from corporate sponsorship, and over $7,000 from event registration fees, personal sponsorship, raffle tickets and refreshment sales.

Further funds were raised from Pink is Infashion, held at Jays on Bridge earlier in the month and from other donations, including funds raised from the auction of a custom designed Benjamin Black ring.

All of the money we raise goes directly towards helping local patients and their families, so we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who continues to support the trust, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Crusaders’ Star Tom Marshall Turns Pink for Boot Camp

PRESS RELEASE: Crusaders and Tasman Makos rugby union representative player, Tom Marshall, will be working out in pink at the annual Boot Camp for Breast Cancer this Sunday October 28, as a show of his support for the event, which marks the finale to a month of fundraising activities organised by the Nelson Regional Breast Cancer Trust.

Nelson Regional Breast Cancer Trust Founder Kate Coote says online entries are still open for the two hour fun focused boot camp, which raised over $36,000 last year.

“I strongly encourage all Nelsonians to follow Tom Marshall’s lead and come along to the event this Sunday – it’s set to be a fantastic morning out for not only local women but men as well,” says Coote.

“It’s a two hour low level boot camp, which means it is really more about having fun while working out, plus there are some spectacular spot prizes to be won, particularly for people who dress up in pink inspired outfits.”

Marshall says he’s looking forward to helping raise awareness for the cause, and hopes people will get behind it.

“The Nelson Regional Breast Cancer Trust support not only patients, but their families as well, through what can be a very difficult time, and all of the money the trust raises stays in the region,” says Marshall.

“Getting involved with the boot camp was the least I could do to help support them – plus it looks like a whole lot of fun, and I hope the rest of Nelson does too,” says Marshall.
